We ‘watch’ with our ears, not with our eyes!

Hearing people often don’t look at a speaker, many of us find eye-contact with a speaker difficult, sometimes even embarrassing. This doesn’t mean that we’re not interested! Hearing people are ‘connected’ to the speaker and to other people around us, through our ears. Even when we are looking at the floor, our cellphone, or at the sky, we’re still listening, paying attention, we are “watching” with our ears. 

Sign language is different, we HAVE to watch the signer. We HAVE to make eye-contact.  But this is very new for some of us. It will take some time, before we get used to using our eyes, as well as our ears!
